Looks like another nail in the coffin for the Toshiba-backed HD-DVD format. This article explains how Toshiba is putting an axe in the program.
This is great news for consumers as no one should have to play the "format wars" game. It's expensive and if you end up on the losing end of the war you have wasted a lot of money.
This isn't related to conferencing and collaboration per se, but the war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD seems to be favoring the Blu-ray camp right now. This article tells how Wal-Mart is phasing out HD-DVD altogether and will only offer Blu-ray beginning in a few months. This will be a major blow to the HD-DVD camp and the major backers, including Toshiba.
What does this mean to you as a consumer? If you remember the Betamax versus VHS wars, I firmly believe that Blu-Ray will be the VHS and HD-DVD will be the Betamax.

There isn't a day that goes by where each and every one of you don't receive a bombardment of advertisements ranging from "You have won a free trip" to "Sign up with us now, no cost, no obligation", and a host of other deals designed to garner attention. Here is something I came across while doing some research on how our newest web collaboration tool compares to our competition.
A new company called VideoLive Web Conferencing has come up with what on the surface looks like a great deal. (It certainly caught my immediate attention). You sign up for their affordable monthly web conferencing and you get not one, but two free web cams. Very nice web cams at that. You get to keep the webcams even if you cancel your service. My initial thought was "wow, they must be absorbing a fairly substantial cost if they are sending out two free high-end web cams to each client". Needless to say I wanted to find out more information about what I'm up against in this competitive space.
